To follow up on our chat, I found more information on using a free account with Microsoft Office 365 from home. Below are the instructions for signing up for a free account:
Microsoft Office 365 is a cloud-based version of office. Office 365 is also available to students! Students must use the Office 365 version if they wish to obtain the product for free.
To Sign up for Office 365:
1. Go to www.office.com/getoffice365
2. Click on the Student tab.
3. Enter your school e-mail address.
4. You will receive an e-mail with a link and instructions to install Office 365.
